12.09.08Emporos Systems Software is Master Certified to Equip Pharmacies to Accept FSA Cards Saving Time and Money

CHARLOTTE, N.C.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Emporos Systems’ point-of-sale (POS) software has been certified by the Special Interest Group for IIAS Standards (SIGIS) and is ready to help pharmacies with the transition to accept Flex Spending Account (FSA) cards. Emporos Systems’ POS solution will enable pharmacies to become IIAS certified in order to meet new IRS regulations that go in effect in July 1, 2009.

This new Inventory Information Approval System (IIAS) requirement allows MerchantSoft™ POS system to identify qualified health products that are eligible for purchase using FSA cards. This system eliminates the need for FSA cardholders to manually file paperwork and receipts to their benefit administrator. The benefit administrator in turn eliminates the manual process of reviewing and approving every receipt.

In order to help pharmacies with the changes needed to meet the new IRS guidelines, a new industry standards group known as the Special Interest Group for IIAS Standards (SIGIS) was formed to produce and promote a voluntary industry standard solution. Pharmacies without an IIAS certified POS will lose the ability to process FSA credit cards after July 1, 2009.

Emporos Systems is one of the only POS vendors who has been certified by SIGIS. The company has been working closely with everyone in the industry to be ready to help pharmacies with these new guidelines. Before the master certification, each pharmacy had to self-certify their POS and credit card solution through a long technical application to SIGIS.

There are two components: completing the certification process and installation of the IIAS certified software.
